Why schedule around Shabbat
Businesses that close for Shabbat and holidays often keep paying for clicks they can’t answer, or need ads off for religious reasons regardless of cost. Google Ads has no Shabbat setting, and the times move every week with sunset, so a fixed schedule is either too early or too late for most of the year.
This tool calculates the windows for each week and gives you the rows to enter in the campaign’s ad schedule.
How the times are calculated
Sunset and nightfall are calculated in your browser from the city’s coordinates, using the NOAA solar equations. Nothing is fetched from a server.
- Pause: candle-lighting, 18 minutes before sunset. Jerusalem uses 40 minutes and Haifa 30, following local custom.
- Resume: Shabbat or holiday end, when the sun is 8.5° below the horizon.
- Shabbat next to a holiday becomes one continuous window.
- Times are rounded outward to the minute; Google rows are rounded outward to 15 minutes, the schedule’s smallest step.
Holidays included
The table covers Rosh Hashana (two days), Yom Kippur, the first day of Sukkot, Shemini Atzeret / Simchat Torah, the first and seventh days of Pesach and Shavuot, for 2026 and 2027. Israeli cities use Israel dates. For New York, London and Paris, the second festival day observed outside Israel is added.
Fast days, Chol HaMoed, Purim and Chanukah are not included, because most businesses that pause for Shabbat stay open on them.
Entering the rows in Google Ads
An ad schedule says when ads may run, so the rows show running hours: on the day the window starts, until the pause time; on the day it ends, from the resume time. Leave other days at 00:00–24:00. Google applies the schedule in the account’s time zone; if it differs from the city’s, convert the times first.
Times are calculated, not taken from a rabbinic calendar. Check them against a local calendar and your own custom before relying on them.
