Characters are counted as you see them (grapheme clusters). A letter with niqqud counts once.

The limits it checks

Google responsive search ads take up to 15 headlines of 30 characters and up to 4 descriptions of 90 characters. Meta’s primary text has no hard limit, but in many placements text beyond about 125 characters is cut behind “See more”, so the tool warns rather than blocks there.

Headlines over the limit are flagged in red with how many characters to cut. The tool also flags an exclamation mark in a headline, which Google’s editorial policy doesn’t allow.

How characters are counted

Characters are counted as grapheme clusters with the browser’s Intl.Segmenter: one count per character you see. A Hebrew letter with niqqud is one character on screen even though it’s stored as two or three code points.

When niqqud is present, the tool shows both counts, with and without the marks, because how each platform counts niqqud isn’t documented. If a line is close to the limit and uses niqqud, test it in the ad editor before you publish.

Mixed Hebrew and English

Hebrew ads often contain a brand, a product code or a number in Latin characters. The text input uses automatic direction, which follows the first strong character. A line that starts with an English word is laid out left-to-right, and punctuation at the edges can appear on the wrong side.

The checker marks lines that mix Hebrew and Latin, and warns specifically when a Hebrew line starts with a Latin word. The preview isolates each headline so you can see how it will read in an RTL results page.

About the preview

The preview is a simplified search ad: the first three headlines joined by separators and the first two descriptions. Google assembles responsive ads in many combinations and may show fewer headlines, so the real ad can look different.

Why does my count differ from another tool?

Many counters count code points or UTF-16 units, which count each niqqud mark separately. This tool counts what you see. For text without niqqud or emoji, the counts are the same.

Does Google count niqqud as characters?

Google doesn’t document it. That’s why the tool shows both counts. In practice most Hebrew ads skip niqqud, which avoids the question and reads more naturally in search results.

Can I use an exclamation mark in a description?

Google allows one exclamation mark in a description, but not in headlines. The tool flags it in headlines only.

Should a Hebrew headline start with an English brand name?

It works, but the line may be laid out left-to-right in some places and punctuation can jump. If you can, start with a Hebrew word and place the brand after it.

Is my ad text saved anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to us.
