Rules

Create a rule

Build an IF/THEN rule from a template, a form or plain words, preview what it would have done in the last 7 days, and set guards before you activate it.

A rule checks your account on a schedule and acts when its conditions are met, like “pause an ad that spent twice the CPA with no conversion”. Every rule action becomes a proposal and follows your approval policy, so a rule can't do anything a normal proposal couldn't.

Owners, admins and managers can create and activate rules.

Create a rule

  1. Open Rules

Start from a template, a blank rule, or a sentence in plain words.
  2. Set the scope

Level (campaign, group, ad, keyword), accounts and campaigns, such as names containing “Prospecting”.
  3. Set the window

How many days back to look, and whether to leave out today.
  4. Add conditions

Combine them with “all” and “any”, for example cost above $200 and zero conversions.
  5. Choose the action

Change status, change budget (percent or amount), change the bid target, add negatives, or notify.
  6. Set the guards

Minimum items left enabled (so it never pauses the last active ad or group), maximum actions per run, and cooldown hours per item.
  7. Save and read the preview

It shows what the rule would have done in the last 7 days, without creating proposals, for example “Would have stopped 4 ads in 7 days”.
  8. Activate it

The rule starts running on its schedule.

Templates

  • Stop an ad that spent 2× the CPA with no conversion.
  • Raise budget 15% for a campaign at or below 80% of target CPA for 3 days.
  • Lower budget at night.
  • Negate terms that spent a set amount with no conversion.
  • Stop everything if the account passed 105% of the monthly target.

How often rules run

PlanFrequency
StarterOnce a day
ProEvery hour; every 15 minutes for stop-loss rules
AgencyEvery 15 minutes

Rules don't run inside a Shabbat or holiday quiet window, and never re-enable what the window paused.

Troubleshooting

“2 more will wait for the next run”. The rule hit its maximum actions per run. The rest are handled next time.

The rule can't be enabled. A Google rule or script works on the same items. Taseli shows the list; choose which one stays. Two systems pausing the same item means neither can bring it back.

The rule paused on its own. It caused three automatic restores in a week, so it was paused and marked for review.

Agencies: use “Copy rule to accounts” to apply a rule across clients. The scope is matched by names.
