Moving from Maximize Clicks to Target CPA
A careful move to Target CPA bidding: check conversion volume, set a realistic first target, change, then monitor for 14 days.
Many small accounts start on Maximize Clicks and stay there. With enough conversion data, Target CPA usually spends the budget on people more likely to become customers. Moving too early, or with a target that's too tight, can stall delivery. This playbook makes the move in the order that reduces that risk.
Steps
Check conversion volume
At least 30 conversions in the campaign in the last 30 days. If there are fewer, stop here; the playbook tells you why and what to do instead.Check tracking health
No duplicates, no page views counted as leads, and no recent tracking breaks.Calculate the 30-day cost per conversion
From mature conversions, not only the last few days.Set the first target at 110% of that CPA
A slightly loose target gives the bidding room to learn instead of choking delivery.Make the change
As a single proposal, with the before and after values.Monitor for 14 days
Compare conversions and cost per conversion against the forecast, allowing for conversion delay.
Worked exampleThe 110% rule
A 30-day cost per conversion of ₪100 means a first target of ₪110.
Who does what
Taseli automates
- Counting conversions and checking tracking health before suggesting anything.
- Calculating the CPA and the starting target.
- Preparing the proposal with current and proposed settings, and what is uncertain.
- Monitoring the change. If conversions fall well below the forecast after enough full days, supported settings are restored and the notice says what was not reversed. Restoring never recovers money already spent.
