Budget

The daily budget is the average amount you want a campaign to spend per day. Google may spend up to twice it on a given day but caps the monthly charge.

In Google Ads the daily budget is an average, not a hard cap. On a day with more opportunity, a campaign can spend up to twice it; on quieter days, less. Over a calendar month, Google won't charge more than 30.4 times the daily budget (the average number of days in a month). So daily spend will vary, and the number to plan against is the monthly total.

Where you'll see it

In Google Ads, the Budget column in the Campaigns table shows each campaign's daily budget; edit it inline or under Settings > Budget. A "Limited by budget" status means the campaign could have shown more often. On Meta, budgets are daily or lifetime, set at the campaign level (Advantage+ campaign budget) or the ad set level. TikTok also offers daily and lifetime budgets.

Worked exampleA $50 daily budget

  • Monthly ceiling: $50 × 30.4 = $1,520
  • A busy Tuesday at $95 is within the 2x limit of $100
  • Change the budget mid-month and the cap is recalculated for the remaining days

With a monthly plan of $1,200, this budget can overshoot it by up to $1,520 − $1,200 = $320.

Do

  • Plan the month with the 30.4 cap
  • Act on “Limited by budget” for profitable campaigns
  • Expect fewer conversions after a sharp cut on a Smart Bidding campaign

Don't

  • Treat the daily budget as a hard daily limit
  • Plan the month as daily budget × days in the month
